How to Take Advantage of a Crisis

Position yourself…..

So, how do you position yourself to take advantage of a crisis? 

‘Let's not pretend that things will change if we keep doing the same thing. A crisis can be a real blessing to any person, to any nation. ... He who overcomes crisis overcomes himself, without getting overcome’.

This quote is theoretically attributed to the late, great Albert Einstein...now I’m not sure whether Einstein actually said this, however I do know that I am a firm believer in the sentiment and I also firmly believe that out of crisis comes opportunity.

The biggie though is that you need to be aware of how you actually position yourself to take advantage of a crisis.

We are currently in a time of economic shrinkage if you take heed of what the economists are saying. Apparently, everything is currently shrinking downwards and the predictions are that we are entering a time of contraction, not expansion. A time that is akin to the global recessions that we have previously observed in the world’s economic cycle. All very interesting...but what does this mean for you?

Consider this…

An interesting, long term observation is that the world’s highest concentration of millionaires are always created in times of crisis. They don't come from affluent times, or times of great global wealth, but from times such as these….times of opportunity. 

So, how do you exactly position yourself for success during these somewhat confusing times. Here are a few tips and tricks that have worked for me in the past.

The value of a good mentor

Then, secondly, arm yourself with a mentor, a mentor that has the tangible tools, the foresight and the acumen to arm you with the steps for success and expansion. A mentor that understands your message and your business. A mentor that understands how the financial and physical world is changing. Do your research and find the professional who is aligned with your own ethics and standards, the mentor that has the same energy and forward-looking thinking as yourself.

Honesty is the best policy...

Next, be honest with yourself. Ask yourself.. “How prepared am I to move into a world that is more digitised and more of a cashless society? Am I prepared for new ways of working?” If the answer is “No” , then you know your next move. Get educated, seek out the new ways. Check in on how you can be ahead of the game, instead of playing catch up.

Don't be frozen by fear of change or the unknown

The key to it all is entering into the habitual activity of attending to your business, your creativity and watching for trends and opportunities to economically transition. Think how you can bring value to people, your clients, through your natural creativity and lateral thinking.

Finally, when you have aligned yourself with your mentor, and embraced the knowledge, then become the mentor. Pass on the skills, build up your client base and proficiency and continue to grow yourself and your network. Place yourself firmly in a state of continual expansion, even though the economy is in contraction.

Blueprint for the future

In post-pandemic times, the most important aspect of coping with this change and newness is to embrace it. Move forward, not from a place of fear and insecurity, but from a place of openness, a willingness to learn and upskill and a disposition of passing the learnings on and paying it forward into your network.
